O espanhol Guillermo Garay (Union WCC) dominou a jornada dupla da Taça de Portugal de BMX Race que inaugurou, neste fim de semana, a nova pista de BMX de Portimão, uma iniciativa integrada na programação de Portimão – Cidade Europeia do Desporto.
O corredor espanhol foi o melhor nas corridas de sábado e de domingo na categoria de homens com mais de 19 anos. No sábado, teve como principal opositor Hugo Martins (Team BMX Quarteira), enquanto o segundo classificado no domingo foi Jaime Airosa (BMX Águias de S. Gabriel Bike Point).
Quando estão disputadas seis das dez rondas pontuáveis para a Taça de Portugal, Hugo Martins segue no topo do ranking, com 63 pontos, mais um do que Jaime Airosa. O terceiro, com 47 pontos, é Carlos Rosado (Clube Bicross de Portimão).
Jéssica Conceição (Núcleo de Bicross de Setúbal/Knowledge Inside) venceu as duas rondas entre as femininas com mais de 15 anos, assumindo, desta forma o comando da geral da Taça, com 34 pontos. Catarina Veríssimo (Team BMX Quarteira) é a segunda da geral, com os mesmos pontos da primeira classificada.
Gabriel Teixeira (Team BMX Quarteira) ganhou as duas corridas deste fim de semana na categoria de juniores, mas o topo da Taça de Portugal continua entregue a André Ribeiro (Núcleo de Bicross de Setúbal/Knowledge Inside). O cadete Renato Silva (Team BMX Quarteira) ganhou as seis etapas da Taça de Portugal já realizadas e domina a classificação geral.
As contas estão muito mais repartidas em juvenis. No sábado impôs-se Bernardo Rocha (Núcleo de Bicross de Setúbal/Knowledge Inside), no domingo triunfou Edi Barradas (Núcleo de Bicross de Setúbal/Knowledge Inside), mas o primeiro da geral é Dmitriy Popyk (Team BMX Quarteira).
João Fidalgo domina a geral master, depois de vencer todas as rondas já realizadas, apresentando o mesmo desempenho em cruiser.
O Núclero Bicross de Setúbal está à frente da geral coletiva.
O ciclismo tem sido uma modalidade presente na programação de Portimão – Cidade Europeia do Desporto. Depois da estrada, com a partida da Volta ao Algarve e com a realização das duas primeiras provas do Troféu Nacional de Esperanças, chegou o BMX, neste fim de semana com a Taça de Portugal e com a inauguração da pista portimonense. No dia 7 de Julho, será a vez do Campeonato Nacional desta disciplina olímpica de ciclismo.
