O Matéria Rima foi classificado na primeira fase da premiação, que encerrou no dia 25/9, passando para a final entre outros dez artistas, como Leci Brandão, Thaíde e Kamau.
Em entrevista ao Barueri na Rede, Wagner de Oliveira José (Sasquat), de 33 anos, morador do Jardim Silveira, contou que a sensação de estar participando do prêmio é indescritível. "Só de estar indicado já é uma baita conquista. Estar entre os dez finalistas, concorrendo com grandes nomes da música popular brasileira é para comemorar, pois sabemos o quão difícil foi chegar até aqui", contou.
Hoje, o coletivo de hip hop é formado por Sasquat, Joul, Nicolas MC, Dj Meio Kilo, DJ Cusco, B. Boy Cidinho, B. Boy Sorriso, Bailarina Roberta, B. Girl Bia, além dos jovens que participam das oficinas ministradas pelo grupo. A banda já rodou o país, e chegou a fazer shows na África, Alemanha e França.
Entre as produções artísticas, está o disco Procurando Respostas (2005), que figura como o primeiro álbum de rap totalmente voltado para a educação, e o CD Influências (2013).
Os cinco escolhidos serão premiados e, no mês de novembro, haverá outra votação para eleger os primeiros colocados. O vencedor de cada categoria será anunciado no dia 11/12.
Sobre o Matéria Rima
Além de ser uma banda, o Matéria Rima também é um projeto social e educacional. A idéia surgiu de Joul, que é morador de Diadema e, em sua época de escola, teve a idéia de transformar em rima as matérias que ele tinha dificuldade de aprender. No início dos anos 2000, ele foi convidado para dar oficinas de dança e rima no Centro Cultural de Barueri.
Foi lá que Sasquat, cumprindo pena por depredação de patrimônio público, conheceu o orientador. "Usei a metodologia dele e compus um rap com a tabela periódica, e o resultado? Nota 10! O rap que ele me mostrou fez com que eu visse sentido nos estudos", relembrou o rapaz, que confessa que a música transformou o adolescente problema.
O Matéria Rima foi fundado oficialmente em 2002 e permaneceu por muitos anos em Barueri, por meio do Projeto Vem Comigo Hip Hop Arte. Como integrante do grupo, Sasquat fez várias apresentações na cidade, no antigo Teatro Municipal de Barueri (TMB) e em mais de 300 escolas municipais.
Com a troca da gestão municipal, em 2012, a parceria foi encerrada. Em 2014, tornou-se o Instituto Cultural e Educacional Matéria Rima. Foi então, que a prefeitura de Diadema adotou o projeto nas escolas municipais. Atualmente, o Matéria Rima oferece aulas de dança, rima, discotecagem, pandeiro, graffiti, educomunicação, flauta e produção musical para 20 escolas públicas de Diadema, do 4o ao 5o ano do fundamental, e para uma instituição particular, totalizando 1.600 alunos, além de 120 crianças que estudam na sede da organização, também em Diadema. "Uma criança que desde cedo tem contato com a arte cresce e se torna um adulto desprovido de preconceitos", comentou Sasquat.
O trabalho com as crianças gerou frutos. O projeto ganhou o Prêmio Itaú Unicef, em 2015 e 2018, como Melhor Prática Educacional Fora da Escola. "Além disso, houve um aumento do índice do IDEB das escolas que atendemos", comemorou Sasquat, que, além de vocalista da banda, também é arte educador de rima nas oficinas.
De lá para cá, o barueriense ganhou notoriedade no meio e fez diversas parcerias com outros cantores. Entre elas, a participação no disco do produtor de rap Ricardo Mock, no EP do cantor Agapê, no EP de Tiago Nascimento e no clipe de Tico QDP. Fora oito músicas com Nicolas MC, parceiro dele no Matéria Rima, sendo a mais recente Sabe de Nada, lançada em agosto.
Um dos destaques de parceria foi com o cantor, ator e professor César Melo, que também é de Barueri. O mestre deu aulas de língua portuguesa para ele no ensino médio e os dois moravam na mesma rua do Jardim Silveira. "Quando ele foi fazer novela e cinema, eu continuei fazendo minhas rimas. Há dois anos atrás nos reencontramos e ele disse que tinha escutado o meu trabalho e que tinha gostado muito. Quando ele me fez o convite para participar do álbum, eu fiquei em êxtase".
O feat está na faixa que dá título ao CD Ela é Afro, lançado em julho deste ano. A música também tem a participação da cantora Paula Lima. "Quando ele me disse que ela também faria o som, juro que desacreditei (kkk)". O disco ainda tem Lázaro Ramos em uma das canções.
Ao encerrar a entrevista, Sasquat pontuou que o rap virou uma filosofia de vida e o tornou o artista que ele é hoje. "A arte liberta, faz com que você extravase de uma maneira positiva. O contato com a arte faz com que você não enxergue apenas através da janela do seu quarto, a arte abre os seus olhos de uma janela para o mundo", concluiu.

Since then, the barueriense gained notoriety in the middle and made several partnerships with other singers. There were eight songs with Nicolas MC, his partner in Matter Rhyme, the most recent Know Nothing, released in August.
One of the highlights of the partnership was with singer, actor and teacher César Melo, who is also from Barueri. Concluding the interview, Sasquat pointed out that rap became a life philosophy and made him the artist he is today. "Art frees you, makes you go in a positive way. Contact with art makes you not only see through your bedroom window, art opens your eyes from a window to the world," he concluded.
