Se o Brasil já ocupa as primeiras colocações do ranking mundial de skate há algum tempo, agora o país assume ainda mais o protagonismo da modalidade ao sediar o World Skate Park Skateboarding World Championships, que é o campeonato mais importante de Park em 2019, somando o maior número de pontos na corrida olímpica para os Jogos de Tóquio no ano que vem. No Parque Cândido Portinari, com entrada gratuita, o evento acontece de 9 a 15 de setembro para homens e mulheres.
"Trazer o Mundial para o Brasil reforça a relevância do Skate nacional e valoriza os atletas que vão competir em casa, no caminho para os Jogos Olímpicos de Tóquio. Teremos uma competição de alto nível com os principais skatistas nacionais e estrangeiros na busca pela maior pontuação para o ranking olímpico. O campeonato é um marco para o skate mundial, para a Confederação Brasileira de Skate (CBSk) e para a Plataforma STU. Além do Mundial, ambas também são parceiras na realização do Oi STU Open, maior evento de skate e cultura urbana da América Latina, e do Oi STU Qualifying Series, o circuito brasileiro de skate, fomentando o calendário de competições nas modalidades olímpicas Park e Street. Todos os eventos com chancela e parceria da World Skate.

A competição espera receber até 200 atletas em busca do título mundial, que encerra a primeira janela olímpica para a modalidade e irá definir os atletas pré-classificados para a segunda janela que acontece até maio de 2020.
"Este Mundial é o último evento da primeira janela no caminho para Tóquio e nós estamos muito felizes que ele se realize em um dos principais países do mundo para o skate. Estamos confiantes de que o Brasil será o ponto de referência nos próximos anos para a cena do skate e que a cooperação entre a CBSk e a Plataforma STU será frutífera para o desenvolvimento do esporte", declara Sabatino Aracu, presidente da World Skate.
"A realização do Mundial no Brasil não é apenas uma conquista de gestão esportiva no âmbito estrutural. E graças ao reconhecimento que a World Skate tem no trabalho da Confederação Brasileira de Skate que estamos conseguindo isso. É muito importante proporcionar aos skatistas um ambiente com o calor da torcida brasileira na competição mais importante de Park na temporada. Sem dúvida, o evento vai marcar história", afirma Eduardo Musa, presidente da Confederação Brasileira de Skate.
De acordo com os critérios da World Skate, os campeões do evento somarão 80.000 pontos cada. Em comparação, os campeões das competições como Pro Tour somam 60.000, enquanto os 1ºs colocados nos eventos Five Star somam 40.000 pontos cada. Portanto, os skatistas que conquistarem o título do Mundial no Brasil darão um passo muito importante rumo à classificação olímpica.
E os atletas melhores ranqueados após este Mundial de São Paulo estarão classificados diretamente para a fase semifinal, sem a necessidade de disputar as eliminatórias e as quartas de final, dos eventos da segunda janela.
Para definir os atletas que estarão classificados para os Jogos de Tóquio serão contabilizados os dois melhores resultados da primeira janela olímpica (jan/2019 a set/19) e os quatro melhores resultados da segunda janela (set/2019 a maio/20).
"O skate brasileiro vive um momento muito legal. A gente já ocupa um espaço importante internacionalmente e agora estamos difundindo isso aqui no Brasil também. O Mundial é o campeonato mais importante de 2019 e é incrível poder viver isso aqui no meu país. Eu espero que muitas crianças possam ir até a pista, assistir pela televisão, se inspirar e acreditar que também podem viver do skate. Que seja mais uma oportunidade para que todo mundo conheça a verdadeira essência do skate. Essa é a nossa missão e o resto é colocar o skate no pé e se divertir", define Pedro Barros, vice-líder do ranking mundial, falando sobre a potência que acredita ser o impacto de um evento como esse no Brasil.
"Vai ser demais competir nesse nível com todas as minhas amigas e ainda ser aqui no Brasil. A gente já conhece a pista, sem dúvida é uma das melhores, então nossas expectativas são ótimas. Tenho certeza que a vibe desse Mundial vai ser inesquecível", comemorou Yndiara Asp, melhor brasileira colocada no ranking mundial feminino de Park.
Além de ser a competição mais importante do ano para a modalidade, o Mundial de Skate Park também é uma competição estratégica para o Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro, que acredita muito na competência dos atletas brasileiros para a próxima Olimpíada.

O World Skate Park Skateboarding World Championships é apresentado pela Oi e conta com a parceria da plataforma Skate Total Urbe. O evento também possui o apoio da TNT Energy Drink, do Governo do Estado de São Paulo, da Secretaria de Esportes do Estado de São Paulo e do Comitê Olímpico do Brasil (COB), além da parceria com o Hotel Go Inn São Paulo Jaguaré.
