No ano passado, o skate foi oficializado como modalidade olímpica, podendo ser disputado pela primeira vez em Tóquio 2020. Antes mesmo do anúncio, a modalidade já vinha ganhando espaço no Brasil e cresce a cada dia, chegando a marca de cerca de 8 milhões de skatistas no país.

Na visão do maior nome do skate do Brasil e atual presidente da Confederação Brasileira de Skate (CBSk), Bob Burnquist, a entrada da modalidade no mundo olímpica abre muitas portas para ela e fortalece seu potencial de crescimento.

“O que a gente está tendo agora, a gente não tinha antes. Obviamente, por ele ser olímpico, a gente consegue um pouco mais de empolgação na área de construção de pista, muitas cidades se aproximam e querem adicionar uma pista pública. E por ser olímpico, passa a ser ok, por mais que para mim sempre foi ok. Quando eu pedi para os meus pais, eles acharam legal, mas com muitos dos meus amigos não aconteceu o mesmo. Então acho que a gente reverteu isso e esse argumento de ser olímpico vai ajudar muito e a modalidade só tende a crescer. Todo dia eu tenho alegrias de ver o skate crescer cada vez mais”, avaliou em entrevista à Gazeta Esportiva.

Mesmo com tamanho crescimento, a modalidade ainda não é muito popular no Brasil. E Bob, com um brilho nos olhos, conta o que lhe chamou tanta atenção no skate, destacando a importância de se ter mais inspirações para as crianças seguirem o exemplo.

“O skate tem um certo magnetismo. Para mim teve. Como alguém que jogou esportes coletivos, eu não gostava de que me falassem o que fazer. Eu gostava de ter a decisão. Então quando eu comecei a andar de skate, eu caía e o problema era meu. Se acertava alguma coisa, o mérito era meu. E isso me prendeu. E isso naturalmente atrai a juventude, porque a galera quer ter uma identidade. Eu sempre digo que o skate é um esporte individual coletivo, porque apesar de aprender sozinho, a gente em conjunto aprende muito mais. E com inspiração, ídolos brasileiros para você se espelhar, se aprende mais ainda”, finalizou.
