Após ter sua estreia frustrada no Pan-Americano de Lima-2019, o skate entrará no programa esportivo dos Jogos de Santiago-2023.
A Panam Sports divulgou nesta quinta-feira (5) uma lista inicial das modalidades que estarão presentes na próxima edição dos Jogos Pan-Americanos, que acontecerão em Santiago, em 2023. A grande novidade fica por conta da inclusão do skate entre os esportes confirmados.
A modalidade iria estrear na edição do Pan em Lima, no ano passado. No entanto, como vários atletas de peso precisaram desistir de participar da competição devido a um outro torneio realizado na mesma data e que contava pontos para o ranking olímpico, o esporte acabou sendo excluído alguns meses antes do evento.
Boliche e squash excluídos
Em compensação, alguns esportes acabaram ficando de fora da lista para a próxima edição do Pan. São eles o boliche, o fisiculturismo, a pelota basca, o squash e o raquetebol.
Das modalidades excluídas, o Brasil acaba sentindo a ausência do boliche, que vinha figurando nos Jogos Pan-Americanos desde a edição de 1991, em Havana. Isso porque o país já conquistou quatro medalhas nessa modalidade, tendo como grande destaque Marcelo Suartz, detentor de três delas (ouro em Toronto 2015, prata em Lima 2019 e bronze em Guadalajara em 2011).
Outras modalidades tradicionais, o squash e o raquetebol deixam o evento após estarem presentes nas últimas sete edições. Vale ressaltar que o squash já rendeu nove medalhas ao Brasil, sendo duas de pratas e sete de bronze. Já a pelota basca fez parte de quatro edições do evento, enquanto o fisiculturismo fez a sua estreia em Lima, no ano passado.
Ainda segundo o comunicado, outros esportes ainda podem ser adicionados na lista de acordo com a condição de estrutura e investimentos da cidade sede analisados pela Panam Sports. A decisão final deve acontecer na próxima reunião do Comitê Executivo da entidade, marcada para o início de junho, em Cali.

After having his frustrated debut at the Pan-American in Lima-2019, skateboarding will enter the sports program of the Santiago-2023 Games.
This Thursday (5th), Panam Sports released an initial list of the modalities that will be present in the next edition of the Pan American Games, which will take place in Santiago, in 2023. The big news is the inclusion of skateboarding among the confirmed sports .
The sport would debut at the Pan edition in Lima, last year. However, as several heavyweight athletes had to give up participating in the competition due to another tournament held on the same date that counted points for the Olympic ranking, the sport ended up being excluded a few months before the event.
Bowling and squash excluded
In compensation, some sports ended up being out of the list for the next edition of the Pan. They are bowling, bodybuilding, Basque ball, squash and racquetball.
Of the excluded modalities, Brazil ends up feeling the absence of bowling, which had been featured in the Pan American Games since the 1991 edition in Havana. That's because the country has already won four medals in this modality, with Marcelo Suartz, holder of three of them (gold in Toronto 2015, silver in Lima 2019 and bronze in Guadalajara in 2011).
Other traditional sports, squash and racquetball, leave the event after being present in the last seven editions. It is worth mentioning that squash has already won nine medals to Brazil, two of which are silver and seven bronze. The Basque ball was part of four editions of the event, while bodybuilding made its debut in Lima last year.
Still according to the statement, other sports can still be added to the list according to the structure and investment condition of the host city analyzed by Panam Sports. The final decision is expected to take place at the entity's next Executive Committee meeting, scheduled for early June, in Cali.
