Reconhecido como um movimento social, político e cultural, o movimento hip hop ainda é assombrado pelo desconhecimento acerca dos artistas que dele participam.
Palmas possui uma cena importante, com MCs, DJs, grafiteiros, b.boys and b.girls (dançarinos) que contam com o apoio do Governo do Estado para a realização de suas atividades. Uma delas é a 40º Batalha Cerrado, que foi realizada entre os dias 27 e 29, no Memorial Coluna Prestes, com apoio da Agência do Desenvolvimento do Turismo, Cultura e Economia Criativa (Adetuc).
Organizado pelo grupo RDV, o evento chegou a sua oitava edição com o Fórum Cultura Hip Hop no primeiro dia, a partir das 19 horas. A proposta é debater a cultura hip hop na sociedade.
No sábado, 28, às 16 horas, hpuve a Batalha do Cerrado 1 x 1 (popping e breaking) e apresentações do mestre de cerimônia Hélio RDV Crew, do jurado Popper Emílio (ADP Crew) e do jurado de breaking B. Boy Migaz (Zulu Breakers 89), de Brasília, além das participações especiais do grafiteiro Sandro Rios, de Jeff TJ e Mari e do grupo Sombras do Hip Hop Kids.
No domingo, 29, a partir das 9 horas, foi realizados workshops na sede do laboratório de dança do grupo Sombras do Hip Hop, no Jardim Aureny 4.
Além de ceder o Memorial Coluna Prestes ao evento, a Adetuc tem prestigiado o movimento hip hop de Palmas por meio da inserção de apresentações no projeto Sexta Cultural, que é realizado pelo Instituto Cidadania Amazônia, via emenda parlamentar da deputada Claudia Lélis. A próxima edição, marcada para 18 de outubro, contará com participação do Sombras do Hip Hop.
