Depois de ter sido vice-campeão júnior na categoria de jovens em 2017, o jovem de 18 anos repetiu o feito júnior durante o Campeonato Nacional de Dança realizado no início de julho em Custóias (Matosinhos).
"É um sonho que se torna realidade pela segunda vez consecutiva", não escondendo que a conquista exigia muita dedicação e suor.
"Foi o resultado de muito trabalho, principalmente porque neste ano criamos dois testes que tivemos que superar para ir ao Nacional, porque a Seleção quer melhorar a qualidade de seus skatistas. Mas quando soube que eu ia para os nacionais e estar entre os melhores em Portugal a competir de novo foi um grande sentimento ", afirma.
A verdade é que Hugo Henriques chegou a Custóias e voltou a encantar, garantindo um segundo lugar que, na sua opinião, vale a pena como título.
"Temos que ser realistas: o atleta com quem competi [e era campeão] é um atleta mais forte, muito mais experiente do que eu, com muito mais horas de treinamento, mas fiz meu trabalho e essa prata tem gosto de ouro.
Sempre pensei em chegar ao pódio, mas já havia pensado que seria muito complicado conseguir o primeiro lugar ", justifica.
Garantido o vice-título nacional, o skatista do Mineiro Aljustrelense ainda alimenta grandes expectativas para esta temporada.
"A ambição está sempre aumentando", admite Hugo Henriques, que está trabalhando "duro" junto com o técnico Ricardo Afonso, na esperança de fazer parte da equipe que representará Portugal no próximo Campeonato Europeu da modalidade, que acontecerá entre agosto e agosto. 30 e 8 de Setembro em Lagoa, Algarve.
